Oscar award nominations for movies are considered in all the categories. In foreign film category the Bollywood movies are always being eluded by the Oscar nomination panel. If they are not nominating Indian films for Oscar due to their quality, then I will say that it is not fair that the Indian movies are not world class and they think that Indian movies do not deserve to win such awards. The Indian film industry is producing world class movies and as a viewer and audience I do not understand that why the Oscar nominations are so biased.
The Bollywood environment is so rich because the Indian movies are very much popular in the south Asia as well as across the world among Indians and Pakistanis and all those who know Hindi and Urdu. India is producing larger numbers of movies but very unlucky at Oscar. Indian movies are very much different from the movies of the other film industries. Indian movies have Indian songs in them and the audiences love those songs. Coming to Oscar every year since 1957s, India has made 80 or more than 80 submissions to Oscar and only three movies have been nominated. But none of those won an Oscar. If you are thinking about Slumdog Millionaire, then you are wrong because it was a British movie. The movies nominated in the foreign Best Movies category are:
1. Mother India
2. Salaam Mumbai
3. Lagaan
This figure is like insulting the Indian cinema but it is the fact and it is injustice. You might be thinking that since 60 years India has not come up with one such movie that can win an Oscar in the foreign film category. This is absolutely wrong because there are too many movies that can be nominated and should be awarded an Oscar. There are reasons for this. The Oscar panel and the international audience don’t understand Indian movies. Because these Indian movies are quite different from other movies produced in the world. Since the old times same as the Old Indian songs in the movies and now the songs are still an important aspect of Indian movies and the dances too. The international audiences and the Hollywood don’t understand these things and some other factors. But in short I will say Indian movies are outstanding from all the aspect of Indian culture and entertainment.
